Konstantin Yelisavetskiy

ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY

Focus: Mesothelioma and Asbestos

NEW YORK OFFICE
700 Broadway
New York, NY 10003

“What really motivates me is the power disparity — when powerful CEOs, managers, and others take advantage of people who are at a disadvantage. Our clients at Weitz & Luxenberg trusted large companies, including their own employers, to be honest and decent. Instead, many of these companies violated these hard-working people’s trust out of greed and with callous disregard for their health and safety. The truth about what these companies have done needs to come out, and our clients should receive just compensation for all they’ve suffered.”

Overview

Weitz & Luxenberg is excited to welcome Konstantin Yelisavetskiy to the firm’s knowledgeable and dedicated Mesothelioma and Asbestos Group litigation unit. He joins us from the New York County District Attorney’s Office in New York City.

“I’m thrilled to have been given the opportunity to work for Weitz & Luxenberg,” Mr.  Yelisavetskiy says. “This feels like a match made in heaven.

“My 5 ½ years with the District Attorney’s Office were incredibly rewarding, but when this position became available, I knew Weitz & Luxenberg was the right move,” Mr. Yelisavetskiy explains. “To become part of such an impressive group of attorneys carrying out the critical work of representing clients injured by asbestos exposure is a privilege.

This Was Where I Wanted to Be

“After a string of cases where I was able to successfully achieve justice for individuals who were the targets of terrible crimes, I knew I wanted to continue working for victims. A series of interconnected events then seemed to line up perfectly to bring me to Weitz & Luxenberg. It felt as if my coming here was meant to be.” Mr. Yelisavetskiy elaborates.

“At the DA’s Office, as an assistant district attorney, I sought to achieve justice for victims of crimes. That is what I am continuing to do here. Our clients at Weitz & Luxenberg have been hurt by the very people and companies they trusted, and they deserve to see these entities be held accountable. ” Mr. Yelisavetskiy explains.

Asbestos Companies Failed to Safeguard Their Employees

“These companies did not safeguard their employees and users of their products from the known harmful effects of asbestos. They didn’t even warn them. Instead, they put people’s lives at risk so they could continue making money. That is unconscionable. And I want to help our clients get justice.”

We knew right away that Mr. Yelisavetskiy’s personal goals and interests were a good match for us. He has extensive trial experience and an overriding drive to seek justice on behalf of people victimized by the irresponsible actions of others.

“I’ve lived in Brooklyn almost all of my life,” Mr. Yelisavetskiy explains. “I’m a local New York guy. A lot of my friends and family have had blue-collar jobs. My dad was with the union.

“A lot of our clients at Weitz & Luxenberg have had blue-collar jobs. I know these people. They’re like family. I know how hard they’ve worked. I know they trusted the people they worked for.

“Our clients gave everything they had to their jobs so they could provide for their families. And these companies took advantage of them.

“My job is to try to get the companies to own up to what they did. They shouldn’t get away by pleading ignorance or simply filing for bankruptcy and walking away. A slap on the wrist isn’t enough. They should have to compensate our clients and their families for all the harm they’ve done,” Mr. Yelisavetskiy insists.

Mesothelioma Destroys Families

Mesothelioma is a diagnosis no one wants to hear. This aggressive cancer linked directly to asbestos exposure hurts not only the person who receives the diagnosis but also the family members who have to watch their loved one go through it.

“One of the worst parts is knowing this fatal disease never had to happen. If companies had taken appropriate safety measures and safeguarded people against asbestos exposure, no one would have gotten sick,” asserts Mr. Yelisavetskiy.

Attorneys at Weitz & Luxenberg have been standing up to companies who manufacturer and use asbestos-containing products for over 30 years. We are striving to bring justice to thousands of people who have developed mesothelioma and other asbestos-related lung diseases. W&L is fortunate Mr. Yelisavetskiy decided to join our team in continuing this fight.

Prior Courtroom Experience

Before joining Weitz & Luxenberg, Mr. Yelisavetskiy worked for 5 ½ years at the New York County District Attorney’s Office in New York City. He handled thousands of criminal cases. He learned that he enjoyed helping victims of crimes, presenting cases before the grand jury, and going to trial when necessary.

Shortly before joining W&L, Mr. Yelisavetskiy achieved a string of victories, most notably:

  • A difficult jury trial conviction of a defendant who viciously attacked and permanently injured an unsuspecting victim, who tragically could not even defend himself. The verdict was greeted with applause by a courtroom full of the victim’s family members.
  • Trial verdict convicting a defendant who savagely beat and injured an elderly man in his home during a home invasion burglary.
  • Multiple victories in cases of white-collar crime where the defendants, including a senior executive at a well-known company, used their position of power and privilege to embezzle hundreds of thousands of dollars from unsuspecting victims.

In recent years, Mr. Yelisavetskiy has also taught at the Fordham University School of Law as an adjunct faculty member. He teaches trial advocacy to second- and third-year law students. Mr. Yelisavetskiy got the “trial bug” while he was in law school, where he won a number of trial advocacy competitions, and continues to love passing his knowledge and experience on to future attorneys.

Outside the Office

When he’s not working, Mr. Yelisavetskiy enjoys supporting the New York Giants, the New York Knicks, and the Liverpool Football Club. He loves music and even dabbles with playing the guitar and drums.

In addition, for several years, he participated in the Barrister Boxing Club. Attorneys in this club train rigorously and compete against each other in sanctioned amateur boxing matches in an annual boxing gala. The goal is to raise money for a variety of veterans’ assistance organizations as well as those dedicated to helping at-risk youth.

He is also fluent in Russian.

Mr. Yelisavetskiy is licensed to practice law in New York.

He earned his J.D., cum laude, from the Fordham University School of Law in New York, New York, and his B.B.A., cum laude, from Baruch College, Zicklin School of Business, in New York, New York.

“My stepfather died in 2002 of lung cancer. Not until some years later did my mother and I learn that he may have been exposed to asbestos. If I had known then what I know now about the legal rights that asbestos exposure victims possess, I might have been able to give my stepfather in his final months and days greater peace of mind. That’s what I strive for in my work today with the asbestos-exposure victims who become my clients. My stepfather is my inspiration for that.”

Overview

Neidra Wilson joined Weitz & Luxenberg in 2012 as an associate attorney in our Mesothelioma and Asbestos Litigation department. Following a brief departure, she returned to W&L in 2016.

In 2018, Noticed recognized Ms. Wilson as a Distinguished Lawyer. This invitation-only service honors top-rated professionals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in their industries.

Prior to her association with W&L, Ms. Wilson worked for a New Jersey employment law firm. She earlier volunteered her services in the Office of the Attorney General of New Jersey.

Ms. Wilson has been in practice since 2008. She is a member of the bar in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and is admitted to represent clients before the Eastern Pennsylvania jurisdiction of U.S. District Court.

After completing the juris doctor program at Rutgers University School of Law in 2008, Ms. Wilson spent a year clerking for a New Jersey Superior Court judge, the Hon. Kathryn A. Brock. Ms. Wilson earned recognition for her impressive grades at Rutgers by being named to the dean’s honor list during her final year.

She came to Rutgers by way of The College of William & Mary, where, there too, she distinguished herself academically — in 2002 she was inducted to the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Ms. Wilson graduated from William & Mary with a bachelor of arts degree in international relations.

“There is no law firm more determined to help people suffering the horrific consequences of exposure to asbestos than Weitz & Luxenberg. It is a high honor to be part of this family of talented, caring attorneys.”

Overview

Marc Willick is an aggressive fighter on behalf of the victims of mesothelioma and their families. He joined Weitz & Luxenberg in 2015, bringing with him 20+ years of battle-tested experience running his own law firm and associating with several prominent, prestigious Los Angeles legal offices — experience that helped deliver one victory after another.

These include a $12-million asbestos verdict for a 65-year-old Navy veteran diagnosed with mesothelioma decades after working in the engine rooms aboard ship, a $9.9-million verdict for a 74-year-old former stillman and rigger at an oil refinery where he was exposed to asbestos-containing equipment and components, a nearly $1.8-million verdict for a 62-year-old mesothelioma victim who was a Navy yard welder and pipefitter, and a $3-million settlement extracted from a company that supplied asbestos-laden pipe to a repairman who breathed deadly dust using it in residential HVAC work in Marc’s hometown of El Segundo, California. These and many more impressive triumphs contributed to Mr. Willick being named a “Southern California Rising Star” of the legal profession by Super Lawyers magazine.

Mr. Willick is admitted to practice law in California and to appear in federal court in California. He entered practice in 1994 following completion of his legal studies at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, from which he obtained a juris doctor degree. Mr. Willick has remained connected to Loyola by volunteering at the Loyola Law School Center for Conflict Resolution as an over-the-phone dispute mediator. Mr. Willick also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications from the University of California at San Diego, received in 1991.

An NCAA swimmer back in college and named an All-American for his aquatic prowess in high school, Mr. Willick today in his spare time coaches masters swimming at Loyola Marymount University and still competes in the sport, now at the masters level. He won first-place honors for his age group (10th overall) in the 2000 Waikiki Roughwater Swim and took first-place again for his age group (3rd overall in the wetsuit division) in the Alcatraz-to-San Francisco Sharkfest swim. Since 1986, Mr. Willick has been a lifeguard keeping swimmers and surfers safe along the beaches of Los Angeles County.

Alexis Wilicki

ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY

Focus: Mesothelioma and Asbestos

CHERRY HILL OFFICE
220 Lake Drive East, Suite 210

“Advocating on behalf of plaintiffs has always felt right to me. Even before joining the firm, I learned about the firm’s initiative and litigation efforts to help hard-working people and their families. I read accounts of how the firm has made a positive impact in real people’s lives. And I knew I wanted to do the same.”

Biography

Alexis Wilicki has joined our Cherry Hill, New Jersey team. She is taking her place among our knowledgeable, highly accomplished asbestos litigators. For nearly three years, Ms. Wilicki worked for us as a law clerk, learning about the work we do and the clients we represent who have developed serious illnesses due to asbestos exposure. Now she can do even more for them as an associate attorney.

Strong Desire to Serve Clients

“From the very beginning, I felt drawn to the clients Weitz & Luxenberg represents,” Ms. Wilicki explains. “Early on, I read through one client deposition after another, and I immediately felt moved by their stories.

“Our clients are incredibly hardworking and devoted people. Throughout their careers, they gave everything to their jobs so to provide for their families.

“I have a strong admiration for our clients. Family is important to me; family means everything. And reading our clients’ stories, I knew more than anything I want to do everything in my power to help these men and women receive the justice they deserve.”

Standing Up to the Big Companies

“To be invited to join Weitz & Luxenberg’s team of asbestos litigators is a privilege,” Ms. Wilicki says. “I work with a great group of dedicated people who really care about our clients and their families.

“They feel just as strongly as I do — big companies that took advantage of their employees or consumers and knowingly subjected them to the hazards of asbestos should not get away with their actions,” Ms. Wilicki emphasizes. “There is no excuse for putting their employees’ or consumers’ lives in danger. Simple changes, warnings, and protections could have made all the difference.

“Our clients should be enjoying their retirement and spending time with their families. Instead, they have developed devastating asbestos-related diseases because of the actions of companies, who merely sought to financially benefit themselves. We must hold these companies liable.

“Weitz & Luxenberg stands up to these multimillion and multibillion dollar companies,” Ms. Wilicki says. “I cannot think of work more valuable than holding them accountable and doing everything we possibly can, from a legal standpoint, to secure justice for our clients.”

Prior Legal Experience

For three years, while attending law school, Ms. Wilicki served as a law clerk for Weitz & Luxenberg in the same office where she is now an attorney. In this position, Ms. Wilicki utilized her writing skills; her primary responsibilities involved drafting and preparing various legal arguments, including oppositions to motions for summary judgment and motions to dismiss.

She also conducted extensive research on state laws, court procedures, and case law spanning an array of topics. This research assisted in crafting compelling legal arguments on behalf of our clients. Additionally, she provided recommendations on how to address motion responses by thoroughly reviewing and applying case law to individual case files.

Before joining W&L, Ms. Wilicki served as an intake and litigation paralegal at a law firm in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While there, she provided support to three attorneys. Among her responsibilities, Ms. Wilicki drafted and filed a variety of litigation documents, including complaints, discovery, motions, and orders. She also spent much of her time corresponding with clients and their families, to keep them consistently up to date on the status of their cases. She also assisted with the initial intake process by screening potential client phone calls and conducting initial interviews.

Mentored During Court Internship

Ms. Wilicki served as a legal intern for the Honorable Christopher J. Cerski, Magisterial District Judge for Montgomery County Court in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania. According to Ms. Wilicki, Hon. Cerski was her first mentor. She took a number of legal courses he taught while she was an undergraduate at Arcadia University. After her initial course with Hon. Cerski, she knew she would be heading to law school. He helped shape her career path.

Being his intern was an “eye-opening” experience, one where she learned behind-the-scenes legal processes and observed live courtroom proceedings. Her responsibilities included conducting and assisting with research and writing; helping manage courtroom proceedings by answering inquiries from attorneys, litigants, witnesses, and the general public; and monitoring and recording courtroom attendance.

In the fall of 2014, Ms. Wilicki served as an intern in the Office of the District Attorney in Philadelphia. Ms. Wilicki credits this experience with giving her the opportunity for client interaction and direct observation of attorneys and judges in hearings. Much of Ms. Wilicki’s time at the Office of the District Attorney’s was dedicated to corresponding with clients, as she regularly participated in conducting client interviews, in addition to preparing and processing legal documents, and attending a variety of court proceedings at the Criminal Justice Center in Center City, Philadelphia.

Ms. Wilicki is licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania. She earned her J.D. from Rutgers Law School in Camden, New Jersey. At graduation, she received the Albert P. Blaustein Memorial Award for exemplifying the highest standard of legal scholarship through her publication in Rutgers Journal of Law and Religion. Ms. Wilicki earned her B.A. from Arcadia University in Glenside, Pennsylvania.

On the Personal Side

Ms. Wilicki enjoys every opportunity to spend time with family and friends. She also enjoys traveling, writing, and spending time outdoors. In fact, any day either hiking in the mountains with her dog, or spent on the beach, is a great one.
